Luther, the great reformer said, “God, help me!” was probably the default mode for prayer. All of us pray “God, Help me!” prayers. But Doug suggests that such prayers, may be the default mode of our faulty hearts but it must not be the first and best position in prayer. Preachers pray, “God, use me!” prayers. Those are wonderful and acceptable prayers, as well. But the heart of prayer is found in God’s love for us, and our love for him. “God, I know that you love me, and I love you with all my heart, my soul and my might.” It’s so simple. But our pleas for God’s help are often so that we will know we are loved. All of hell is unified to do one thing – separate you from the love of God. Knowing you are loved, is the key to knowing you are a conqueror! Most frantic “God, help me!” prayers would melt away if we are assured deep in our hearts of God’s love! Prayer centers us in the love of God. Many have called this Doug’s best prayer series.
