Evangelism as Blessing is a new approach to evangelism, yet an older, tried and true approach borrowed from God Himself. Have you ever noticed that the first word of God to humanity was that of blessing? And it was the last word Christ spoke as he ascended. The blessing is an expression of God’s enduring love. It is an offer of grace. It is what the priesthood, and now, the pastoral ministry is to speak over congregations and cities. It is not love without truth, but it is unconditional love laced with compelling truth. At the intersection of love and truth, one encounters redemptive power. Here is the call to evangelism that listens before it tells. It is story-based, testimony-inspired evangelism. It is slower, more relational, more natural. Anyone can offer a blessing - and open up a conversation about the goodness of God - and the goodness of God, the Bible declares, leads to repentance.
